Attorney Stephen M. Smith Inducted into the VA Lawyers Hall of Fame
The Smith Law Center is pleased to announce that Stephen M. Smith, Esq. has been inducted into the VA Lawyers Hall of Fame. During each course of the year, Virginia Lawyers Weekly celebrates leading lawyers who set the standard for other lawyers. These are accomplished men and women who have improved the legal profession in Virginia and left their individual marks in the law of the commonwealth.
The VA Lawyers Hall of Fame
The Virginia Lawyers Hall of Fame, sponsored by Virginia Lawyers Weekly, honors senior lawyers — those aged 60 or above who have dedicated their lives to the craft of Law. Criteria for selection to the Hall of Fame include:
- Career accomplishments
- Contributions to the development of the Virginia law
- Improvements to the bar and to the commonwealth
- Efforts to elevate the quality of justice in Virginia
The Hall of Fame Class of 2019 was honored at The John Marshall in downtown Richmond. Brain Injury Law Center (BILC) was a sponsor for the event.
About Managing Partner Stephen M. Smith, Esq.
Stephen M. Smith is the founder of the Brain Injury Law Center and the managing partner of The Smith Law Center, which has been in operation for more than 70 years. He is an internationally-recognized expert in traumatic brain injury litigation, with more than four decades of experience in such cases. Stephen has been admitted to practice law since 1974 and earned his J.D. from the College of William & Mary. He also graduated from Marquette University’s Neuroanatomical Dissection of the Human Brain and Spinal Cord program, which allows him to understand complex brain injury cases more fully. The advanced medical training provides his clients with an advantage in the courtroom.

- He holds the record for the largest verdicts in many Virginia jurisdictions
Stephen’s contributions have dramatically changed the way TBI cases are litigated across the country. He also regularly lectures, presents, and speaks all over the U.S. He does this in efforts to improve the skills of physicians and lawyers, and to help them recognize the symptoms of clients and patients so they can treat and represent them more effectively. While Stephen takes pride in the many verdicts he has won, he is most proud of having protected and changed the lives of thousands of individuals.
